PSTN Integration with MS Teams

Enhance your business communication by integrating the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) with Microsoft Teams Phone. This integration empowers your organization with complete PBX functionality while extending voice calling capabilities beyond your internal network.

Options for PSTN Integration

  • Operator Connect: If your current telecom carrier is part of the Microsoft Operator Connect program, they can manage your PSTN calling directly through Microsoft Teams. With this option, carriers provide Session Border Controllers (SBCs) and manage the channels, offering a streamlined approach to PSTN connectivity.
  • Teams Phone Mobile: By leveraging Microsoft Teams Phone Mobile, a user’s SIM-enabled mobile number also functions as their Teams phone number. Your carrier, if part of the Teams Phone Mobile program, can handle the integration, making it simple to bring PSTN calling to Teams.
  • Direct Routing: Direct Routing lets you keep your existing PSTN provider. You can connect your Session Border Controllers (SBCs) to Teams Phone, giving you the flexibility to continue using your preferred telephony provider while integrating with Teams.
  • Microsoft Calling PlanThis is Microsoft's all-in-the-cloud solution for PSTN calling. It’s the simplest way to connect Teams Phone to the PSTN, as Microsoft acts as your PSTN carrier. No on-premises deployment or maintenance is needed since it runs through Microsoft 365.

For more complex environments or phased migrations, you can even combine these options to create a customized solution that fits your needs. Additionally, Direct Routing allows for third-party PBX integration, supporting analog devices and other telephony systems through a connected SBC.
